Last Day

The time has flown so fast and we are not looking forward to saying goodbye to Dan & Margie. We've enjoyed meeting their co-workers and making new friends. Eric & Donna came over for lunch today and Dave & Beth and their kids will come for icecream tonight.

Yesterday we went to church in the village that Dan teaches in twice a month. We enjoyed meeting the people there and shared a potluck of rice, noodles, fahrina, and meat with them. Larry & Darlene stayed back as Darlene wasn't feeling well, but she is much better today. We went in Dan's truck but the air conditioning went out on the way home so it was a warm ride. Last night we went out for Brazilian pizza on the water front of the Rio Blanco. It was a beautiful evening. Then we came back to the house and spent some time in prayer together.

Today we did some finishing up work--last patches on the roof, painting the last of 15 gallons of paint, sweeping and arranging the school rooms. The students bring their own hammocks and hang them from the hooks on the walls. Gordon also spent some time making more repairs on Dan's truck.

The weather continues to be hot in between the rain showers. We've been taking 2 showers a day. The faucets here have only one handle. No hot or cold water, just room temp, which is very refreshing in the shower. They don't have water heaters but the shower heads have an electric heater on them if you want hot water. (You just have to be sure you are not standing in the water when you flip the switch!)

Believe it or not we are really looking forward to the cooler weather in Portland! We are eager to be home with our families and to see all of you. We are so thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to spend this time with Dan and Margie, deeping our friendships with them and getting a first hand look at their ministry. We will share lots of photos with you when we get home.

We leave Boa Vista tonight about 1:30 am and will spend the rest of the night in the Manaus airport. We have reservations at a hotel near Ft Lauderdale for Tuesday night and are looking forward to the pool or a walk on the beach.

Your very own missionary adventure, just like in all the missionary biographies we've read! I can't wait to hear all about it in person some day soon. You having to say good-bye to Dan and Margie makes me cry. Can they video-conference from their office? I've been IMing with your children--mostly eLiz and although they've enjoyed having the house to themselves, I think they've missed you more than they'll let on. :) (Huh, you guys, as I know you'll read this too.)
